This Great Graphic was compiled by the Wall Street Journal, based on their own survey data and forecasts by the Federal Reserve. It shows this year’s inflation forecasts by the Federal Reserve, economists and a few income brackets and age cohorts.
There are two overwhelming observations. First, the Fed is clearly expecting lower inflation that any other group. Economists see a bit more inflation than the Fed but still expect it to be below 2%.
Second, the inflation expectations of every one else seems to be remarkably stable around 3%. Socioeconomic status (income) and age does not seem to be strong predictors of the inflation forecasts presented here.
